Our school

The Czech School without Borders in Geneva provides education in the Czech language, literature, and Czech culture in accordance with Czech educational standards for children aged 3 to 15. The teaching is designed to complement the everyday education that children of Czech origin receive in Swiss, French, or international schools. In addition to regular classes, the school organizes various cultural and social events for the children of expatriates and their families. Under the auspices of the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the UN in Geneva, it is a Swiss non-profit association that is part of the international network of Czech Schools without Borders and a member of the ELCO Commission, which unites language schools in Geneva.

The education of the Czech language, geography, and history follows the educational program of the Czech School without Borders, which is based on the Framework Educational Program of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic. At the end of each semester and school year, the school issues certificates to its students, which are recognized in schools in the Czech Republic as report cards. Membership in the ELCO Commission allows the Czech School in Geneva to have its students' Czech language grades recorded on their Swiss report cards. The elementary school classes, attended by children aged 6 to 15, are preceded by preschool education for children from the age of 3. We also organize a mini-club for parents and children under the age of 3 every Thursday, where children learn to connect with peers of the same age, sing Czech songs, learn Czech nursery rhymes and play in Czech speaking enviroment.

Students meet at École Chrétienne Timothée, Ch. François-Lehmann 18A, CH-1218 Grand-Saconnex every Wednesday, except during the school holidays in the Canton of Geneva. Classes for the primary school take place from 14:10 to 18:20, and for the youngest preschool group and the zero grade from 14:10 to 17:20.

The instruction is supplemented by a diverse program of activities, which is also supported by other Czech Schools without Borders: European Day of Languages, Night with Andersen, World Environment Day, Reading Helps, literary and art competitions, Czech language Olympic games, translation contests, and more.

Every year, the school dedicates part of its teaching activities to projects commemorating significant anniversaries, which involve students from all age groups in close collaboration with the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the UN in Geneva, the expatriate association Pohoda, and Beseda Slovan Geneva, as well as other expatriate organizations and entities in the Czech Republic and abroad. The school regularly facilitates educational projects from the Post Bellum organization for its students.

To raise awareness of Czech culture, history, current events in the Czech Republic, traditions, and customs, the Geneva school organizes events for students, their families, and the large Czech community in Switzerland and neighboring areas of France. Each year, the school organizes several theatrical performances and concerts featuring Czech artists, educational outings, and discussions with prominent figures in Czech culture. Traditional events include St. Nicholas celebration, lantern parade, Carnival mask party, gatherings for parents, and more. The school also collaborates with Geneva's public schools, introducing their students and teachers to the Czech language and culture through theatrical and literary activities.

The school also offers individual supplementary Czech language courses and a communication club for children aged 6 and older, a Czech language course for adults, and regular creative Saturday mornings with Czech language activities and a mini-club for parents with children. Supplementary courses and clubs are opened annually based on demand.
